BUILDING HIVES
Building a hive is exciting; there will be bumps along the way, but it will be beautiful and God-honoring. We dream of intergenerational colonies with experienced CM families mentoring and investing in those just behind them. This beautiful vision is a golden opportunity for life-on-life discipleship in both the educational and spiritual realms, the two of which Mason said we cannot allow to be separated (Vol. 6, p.xxxi).
Our Vision section explains more about the overarching dream of Honey of the Hive, but how do we do it? Building community is organic, but it doesn't just happen. It's intangible, but it has to have structure. This is how we build our hives.

Network Basecamp
A basecamp is where explorers stop when they've gone as far as they can with all their gear. They set up camp for shelter, supplies, communications, etc, and go on excursions from there with just what they need. Each of us is on a homeschool adventure. We are personally responsible for our children and their education, but it's nice to have a central place to setup camp with others. We can go on excursions alone or together, but it's nice to have a place to come back to for encouragement and inspiration.
The Honey of the Hive network is organized and managed as a private group in an app called Basecamp that provides for all our community needs. It has a place for discussions, announcements, task lists, reminders, and an event scheduler. There is also a place to organize documents and share resources. Notifications and calendar synchronization features keep members connected and up to date. Once you join Honey of the Hive, you will receive an invitation to join Basecamp. At that time, the program can be downloaded as a desktop app, phone app, or accessed through a web browser.

Local Hives
Our base Hive was constructed in Timberlake, NC, but we dream of equipping leaders to swarm colonies and build hives of their own all over North Carolina. These local hives are under the umbrella, structure, and guidance of the base hive, and they benefit from being part of the Honey of the Hive network. Local leaders don't have to be CM experts to swarm a colony. In fact, we believe no one ever "arrives" at being an expert and that everyone needs encouragement and accountability. So we help leaders swarm a colony with slow and steady growth and we delight in seeing them take flight!

General Blueprints:
- Pray for wisdom and discernment for God's calling and for His blessings upon the local community.
- Host local playdates or nature outings to get to know other families who may be interested in Charlotte Mason homeschooling.
- Start a Book Club to develop a core group of families with a strong foundation in CM principles.
- Incorporate Cell Groups such as Nature Club or Cottage School that require more understanding of how to implement CM methods.
